Why Fox News ≠ ‘Faux News’

The comments on Reddit supporting the professor who banned students from using Fox News as a source are hilarious:

I’d like to point out that Fox News isn’t always wrong. Just like MSNBC isn’t always right. Personally if I were a teacher… if a student wrote a paper and used numerous sources and one of them happened to be Fox News, and it was relevant, and hadn’t been debunked… I wouldn’t mark them simply for using Fox News.

Glad to see someone throws Fox a bone.

Someone was taught that MSNBC is more “right” than Fox (it’s actually left, but stay with me on this).  They were taught a spectrum of factual inaccuracy, placing MSNBC as “highly accurate” and Fox as “highly inaccurate”.  “Sure”, they say, “MSNBC isn’t always right.”  Why does MSNBC get a pass for errors, yet Fox doesn’t?

The comments get better and better:

No one should ever ever think that what Fox News does is good journalism and is something to emulate. But of course they have massive ratings and make a ton of money, so journalistic ethics don’t mean shit.

MSNBC, CNN, and every news source that isn’t PBS NewsHour makes profit, so is every source besides PBS NewsHour lacking journalistic ethics?

The problem with Fox specifically isn’t that they are biased. Rather, the problem with Fox is that they flat out lie about a ton of things. Sometimes they will create false controversies about things that shouldn’t even be questioned. For one such example, take the whole kerfuffle raised around Barack Obama’s birth certificate.

They disagree with me, therefore they lie.

They question authority, therefore they aren’t credible.

Hillary Clinton supporters question Obama’s birth certificate, therefore it’s a Republican conspiracy.

Anything factual you can find on Fox News can also be found on places with a stronger journalistic record.

…except all the stories that Fox breaks or discusses that other networks don’t.

The point here is Fox’s penchant for lying and distorting the truth and just generally being giant dumbasses extremely frequently.  Their credibility is strained, plain and simple.

THEY’RE JUST BIG MEANIES OKAY
