Folks, you’ve heard it before: women make less than men, therefore we live in Medieval Europe, or something.
As with most statistics, the ones that “back this up” are questionable at best.
The University of Washington Women’s Center, in advertising a “Wage Negotiation Workshop” (I don’t quite know what that means, wearing a low-cut top or sumth) says that:
“[o]ver the course of her working life, a woman will earn roughly $1 million less than a man – simply because she is a woman.”
First of all, *citation needed*.
Second of all, of course women earn less than men, and it’s not simply because their employer reaches down and feels different parts.
Women are more likely than men to get pregnant (no citation needed) and take maternity leave.
Women take different jobs than men, usually ones that involve less risk (how many women would want to work out on an oil rig?)
Women have a different work-life balance than men, especially if they have children.
Merely mentioning these things is not anti-woman, it’s reality. To deny them is to truly be anti-woman, because you’re denying the fact that women bear children, are mothers, and wives.
What’s frustrating for men is to hear women demand chivalry when it’s most advantageous for women.
Free drinks and meals and open doors? HELL YES
Getting paid less to do less demanding work than men? SECKSIST
