Putting women & children first (in the line of fire)

What is the likelihood that a cop will be shot by a small child or a pregnant woman?

If your answer is, “probably once every decade and there will be a huge-ass news story about it but I haven’t heard one so I bet it’s probably never happened” then you’re right.

First things first, the headline is misleading: “Cops conducting target practice on images of children and pregnant women”.  There’s no evidence any actual cops or PDs use these.

That having been said, Law Enforcement Targets Inc now sells targets of a pregnant woman holding a gun (and her tummy bulge, prob for stability) and a little kid pointing a gun.

The reasoning is that it’s “meant to force officers of the law to act without hesitation in even the most unusual life-or-death scenarios”.

Look, if a pregnant woman is facing you with a gun, you don’t shoot the woman, you shoot at the ground to avoid the baby.

If a child is facing you with a gun (and clearly, depicted by the boy in the photo, it’s a child who doesn’t know what he’s doing) then for God’s sake, you don’t shoot the damn child.

You don’t need to be desensitized to a child or a pregnant woman aiming a gun at you.  You need to be sensitized to the fact that these are extenuating circumstances that should be carefully handled, not targets to point and shoot at.

I’m an NRA member, gun enthusiast, rabid Second Amendment supporter, and believer that I will blast a robber to kingdom come at point-blank, and I approve of this message.
