Margaritaville: most valuable song ever?

Margaritaville is one of those annoying old songs from the 70s that your parents are probably completely into but is just about getting wasted on a beach. Hell, if I wrote a song for every time that happened, I’d have a back catalog that stretched from here to Cabo.

The song was No. 8 on the Billboard charts. However, Margaritaville Enterprises, the company formed around the song, has brought in “at least $100 million in revenue in 2007”, making Jimmy Buffett a very rich man indeed.

There’s a blender named after it, drink mixes, clothing, and 27 Margaritaville franchise restaurants.

This is the legacy of the Baby Boomers, the generation that was anti-corporate, free love, free drugs, and said to never trust anyone over 30.
