How this poll worker got away with voting fraud

Who do we have to trust the most in our society?

The President of course, as well as teachers, soldiers, and others responsible for our children and our safety.

Here’s one you probably haven’t thought of: poll workers.

We trust them, most of whom really don’t need any qualifications, with our votes being safe, discreet, and counted.

However, a poll worker in Hamilton County, Ohio breached that trust in a huge way:

Melowese Richardson, 58, of Madisonville pleaded no contest to four counts of illegal voting – including voting three times for a relative who has been in a coma since 2003 – in exchange for prosecutors dropping four other illegal voting charges.

This wasn’t some newbie either:

A poll worker from 1998 until being fired this year, Richardson admitted she voted illegally in the 2008, 2011 and 2012 elections.

And that’s just what she admitted to. Who’s to say she hasn’t been voting illegally for more than a decade?

Here’s how she finally got caught:

“They noticed a bunch of absentee ballots coming from the same place with the same handwriting,” Assistant Prosecutor Bill Anderson said. Other Board of Elections workers then recognized Richardson’s handwriting.

Gee, at least try to cover your tracks a little bit.

She’s not alone either:

She’s the third person in Hamilton County to be convicted this year for illegal voting [along with] Sister Marguerite Kloos, 55, of Delhi Township, and Russell Glossop, 76, of Symmes Township.

Three others indicted for illegal voting – Margaret I. Allen, 64, formerly of Loveland; Ernestine Strickland, 84, of Memphis, Tenn.; and Andre Wilson, 49, of Winton Hills.

Do you notice a trend here?

All of these people are well into their middle ages and older—you know, the ages where they should damn well know what is and isn’t breaking the law.

So what exactly can the excuse be when people from the “most responsible” segment of our society start committing felonies? And more concerning—how many more people are getting away with this?
