A UK radio host was pulled off the air for being drunk, after what I’d like to think was just a tipple of sherry.
On BBC Radio Stoke (which I realized wasn’t “Stroke”, which sounds like an unfortunate type of BBC radio program), Paula White started off her last Friday afternoon show (after being moved to the next day), but didn’t even last a half hour.
Here’s the lowdown:
Responding to a listener who texted in saying “Paula, you sound drunk”, she responded: “I’m not drunk! I’ve had a couple of drinks, I’m not drunk!” – before squealing into the microphone.
Confused by the buttons she had to press, White then played a jingle instead of a track – and declared: “It’s the last day and nothing’s working! Why is nothing working?!”
White’s colleague Denholm Siergetz swiftly took over, telling listeners: “Paula is not feeling well, with it being her last afternoon show – so she has gone home.”
Bullshit she wasn’t feeling well. I’ll bet she was feeling just fine.
Let’s be honest, I never knew of this woman or her show or even Stoke until this article.
She’s now the most popular British radio host.
Brilliant marketing? You bet.
