Male domestic abuse

Domestic abuse is a serious problem.

But what few understand is that it’s not just an affliction of women: men are affected as well.

Domestic abuse of men is less physical than of women, but can be more emotional and psychological, which can be just as harmful.

Domestic abuse in gay relationships can be physical too.

However:

[u]nder the provisions of the Affordable Care Act, the administration recently instituted regulations requiring services for domestic abuse to be covered as preventive care…There’s just one catch: The regulations only require that these services be covered for women.

It goes to show that these regulations were put in place as vote-getters.  Covering domestic abuse for women is a shrewd electoral tactic.  Covering abuse for men has no clear electoral benefit.

It goes to show that every word in the title “Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act” is a sham except the last.

It’s an act, alright.
