It might seem like a riddle, but it’s not, I assure you. This past week, a “Michigan school district has barred two pregnant students from showing their baby bumps in the high school yearbook.”
When asked for comment:
White Cloud Public Schools Superintendent Barry Seabrook said Thursday allowing the pictures to appear in the yearbook would be contrary to the state’s mandate that public schools’ sex-education curricula be abstinence-based.
“It’s our feeling … that (the photos) could very well be a contrary message to (the state policy),” Seabrook said. “We’re not saying they can’t have their photos in the yearbook.”
Aren’t yearbook photos just headshots? Back in my day, we didn’t have the money for full body shots.
Kimberly Haney, who also is pregnant and not permitted to show her midsection in the White Cloud High School yearbook, said she “went to the bathroom and cried” upon receiving the news. Both girls say they are being discriminated against.
I gotta go with the superintendent here. This is high school, not the maternity ward. And to the girls who say “omg, but it’s not MY fault I got pregnant!!!!1” well, yeah it is. You chose to have unprotected sex, not take birth control, or Plan B. Taxpayers aren’t paying for you and your kid to go to school, just you.
